During our Sunday 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM Masses, children 6-12 (under 6 may need parent/sibling supervision) are invited and blessed by our pastor and the congregation to move to the Religious Education foyer (downstairs) for the Liturgy of the Word to hear the Sunday Mass readings and Gospel presented at a child's level to better understand and appreciate The Word of God.
After our children hear The Word of God and attentively strive to appreciate the gospel message, together we pray for others (Prayer of the Faithful) and pray the Creed. The children then move upstairs to rejoin their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Children are also provided with a leaflet to take home with activities to further understand the scriptures of the day. This leaflet also includes a Family Focus section which provides the opportunity for families to build on the Gospel message and to practice and apply The Word of God with their families throughout the week.
We officially invite children ages 6 through 12. All of our children are expected to be courteous and engaged. Younger children are reminded they need to act as attentively as if they are at least 6 years old. We've had children as young as two with the help of siblings and parents.
Children 11, 12 + generally grow to appreciate staying with the adult congregation. After receiving their First Holy Eucharist children may choose to train to become an altar server at Mass. Deacon Steve Fraker can proivde for more information regarding altar server training.
